Frequently asked questions

Why are foam weapons used in the program?

Foam weapons are used for the purpose of learning skills and performing stunts.

Participants are taught to use foam swords in a diagonal pattern across the body, an example of crossing the midline. Crossing the midline is a gross movement pattern commonly taught in sports such as cricket and tennis. Foam throwing knives are used to teach catching and throwing skills. Using the foam weapons requires the same spatial awareness, timing, reaction and depth perception that hitting a tennis or cricket ball does.

In the same way martials arts are taught, the values of the ninja program are respect, honour and restraint. Coaches guide participants through the activities and teach them the benefits, dangers and things to watch out for.
