Council is currently undertaking several energy conservation projects to reduce energy usage and the carbon footprint of our facilities, including Aquanation. As part of the works at Aquanation, we will be retrofitting the air conditioning units for the gym and program rooms to allow for an ‘Economy Cycle’.
An Economy Cycle circulates the outside air directly into the rooms, rather than using cold water to chill the air, which relies on large energy intensive plant equipment and pumps.
These works are part of Council’s goal to be carbon neutral by 2020, as referenced in the Maroondah Sustainability Strategy and Carbon Neutral Strategy.
It is estimated that following the completion of all energy savings works at Aquanation, we will be reducing 230 tonnes of carbon emissions, which is the equivalent of the emissions produced by 88 petrol cars each year.
